Why Community Service Matters in High School
High school is about more than just classes and grades—it’s a chance to explore new interests, build friendships, and discover the kind of impact you can make in the world. One of the most rewarding ways to do that is through community service. Giving back not only helps others, it also helps you grow, build confidence, and develop leadership skills that will last a lifetime.
We’re especially excited this year because our daughter is serving as president of her school’s Interact Club (the youth branch of Rotary). On September 10, “Club Rush” Day, she and her team will be encouraging fellow students to get involved and join in projects that make a difference in our community. As parents, we’re so proud to see her stepping into this role—sharing her passion for service and inspiring others to do the same.
Being part of community service teaches empathy, teamwork, and responsibility. It shows students that no matter their age, they have the power to create positive change. Whether it’s volunteering at local events, lending a hand to neighbors, or leading school-wide projects, every act of service counts.
At the end of the day, community service is more than a line on a college application—it’s a chance to grow, to lead, and to see firsthand how giving back can change lives, including your own. We hope more students are inspired to jump in, get involved, and discover just how meaningful service can be.
